It is so interesting to see in families what jobs everybody takes to help make their household run smoothly. Some of these jobs are spoken but a lot are unspoken. It is especially fascinating to see when (and to what extent) the children's job is of taking care of their parents.
I know growing up, some of my unspoken jobs with my parents was 1. to tell my dad to turn the turn signal off, especially in the Suburban because it was so soft it could be on for miles and miles without him noticing and 2. to keep a 10-20 on my mom's keys.
In our day-to-day life, when Nora and I head out in the mornings I usually gather everything up that we need, we go out the door and at some point from closing the door to getting to the car I remember that I have forgotten my phone. So I throw everything in the car, run back inside and retrieve my phone. Yesterday was no different, Nora and I got our stuff together, we headed out, I locked the door and Nora turned around and said, in her sweet little voice, "Mama, you got your phone?" True to form I had left it inside charging! I ran back inside, got my phone and thanked my little 2 year old for a job well done! Who knew that it started so young!

Keeping Up with the List
My Summer list of things to do is going well!
Here is an update...
We got my bike outfitted with a kid seat and Nora loves her Barbi helmet. She sometimes just wears the helmet around the house! Safety first!
Paul left for Italy on a missions trip so Nora and I treated ourselves to our first walk down to the ice cream shop!

While Paul was away Nora and I headed to my folks house for a little moral support on the t-shirt quilt. My mom has the ability to give me confidence when I don't think I can really do something! The quilt is coming along nicely and might actually get done this summer!

Good-Bye to a Friend
Nora is often in the office where I work and she has come to love some of my co-workers, mainly the co-workers who give her treats! One such co-worker, John Benza, began this tradition with Nora of every time she came in, she could go to his office and get a cup full of gold fish crackers. No matter what time of day, no matter what meal this little snack ruined, Nora could count on her cup of fishies. John was faithful in keeping his supply stocked and fresh.
Recently John took a job in Colorado and has since packed his office, said his good-byes and bid farewell to sunny CA. This is a great new beginning for him but Nora will miss her fishies supplier, she will miss the silliness she gets to exude when around him, she will miss her friend. Even though John's office is now empty of his work and presence he did leave behind a giant box of fishies so for a little while Nora will not realize her friend is gone. I'm not looking forward to when those fishies run out and I have to explain something that I know she won't quit understand but she will understand the end of something good.
